Kate Richardson

  • Originally from Guildford, Kate Richardson moved to Cornwall to work as an Occupational Therapist and quickly fell in love with the place she now calls home. The abundance of galleries in the area sparked a dormant desire to compliment her problem solving job with a creative one, and so she started building a body of work in her own unique style.

Kate’s oil paintings are a unique expression of freedom, boundless in imagination. With the addition of mixed media, each original piece is uncompromising and unlimited – with inspiration drawn from her home surroundings – windswept trees, dramatic shorelines and colourful fields.

Like many artists, her work carries an emotional element that reflects her description of the process of painting as simultaneously cathartic, meditative, explorative and exhilarating. Over time, her style has evolved to focus more deeply on an instinctive approach. Although landscapes remain a central theme, Kate has begun to use mark-making to form dramatic and beautiful abstract compositions.

Kate Richardson has enjoyed mixed and solo shows in her home town of Penzance and in Cardiff. In September 2020, Kellie Miller Arts hosted the ‘Arcadia’ Exhibition; a solo showcase for Kate featuring figurative, abstract and idyllic landscapes created during the Covid-19 quarantine period.
