Julie Kuyath was born in New Mexico, United States and raised in England, where she gained a BA in Fine Art at Hull University. She later studied Silversmithing and Jewellery Design to a BTEC level at Guildhall University.
Following her studies, she worked in London as a jewellery designer, creating her own signature collections while, tenaciously perfecting her collage assemblages.
In 2004 Julie moved to Barcelona, Spain, where she lived and worked as an artist, exhibiting in numerous group and solo shows before relocating to Brighton in 2013.
Julie's background in jewellery making has informed, and influenced her craft today. Her resplendent collages are multiple-hued, bejewelled arrangements aligned to literary works.
Her cryptic collages draw on the sundry influences of folklore fairy tales, mythology, poetic verse and literature. Julie's complex arrangements on canvas are elusive, mystical and sometimes foreboding. Working on large formats, Kuyath hand cuts and tears found paper and arranges it, to depict her imaginings. Her work in turn, produces optical illusions with intricate coloration and textures.
Julie's ultimate goal is to resurrect, recycle and infuse life and splendour into a forsaken and discarded medium.
Julie’s work can be seen regularly at Kellie Miller Arts.
