Isabel Merrick

Isabel Merrick in her studio

Working in a painterly way with coloured slips, and with inclusion of mark-making elements such as sgraffito, Isabel finds a new narrative for the environment she lives in through her ceramic art.

  • Living in the heart of the Devonshire countryside, Isabel’s surroundings and the local coastlines have been a great source of inspiration to her. Keeping a visual diary through sketchbooks and recording ideas has been a central component of her creative dialogue and in the development of new ceramic work.

Moving into porcelain and stoneware clay as a form of 3D canvas, Isabel’s work has developed to focus on organic forms and reconstructing visions of the landscape. Working in a painterly way with coloured slips, and with inclusion of mark-making elements such as sgraffito, Isabel finds a new narrative for the environment she lives in through her ceramic art.

  • Isabel Merrick graduated from Farnham Art College in 1994 with a degree in 3D Design, Ceramics. She has been working as a professional ceramicist and painter since 1996, starting out in the north of England, before moving to the West Country in 2001.
