Su Jameson
Rather than a specific narrative, I am interested in a more allegorical conveyance of hidden/semi-hidden and sometimes complex meanings that are highly personal, through symbols, colours, and textures. This approach, I hope, allows for a more universal dialogue.

Su Jameson's hand-built ceramic sculptures strive to create exchanges, both physical and emotional. Drawn from personal experiences, interactions and observations, her work explores the complexities of being human, issues around belonging, strength and fragility, and the tools of communication. Derived from ideas that are at once particular and universal, the work invites contemplation and reinterpretation.
Her figurative sculptural pieces evolve in response to the previous or the next in the cycle—an intuitive expression of the moment. Their endpoint is unknown at the time of making, but Su's aim is for honest, nuanced work that will strike a chord. As the work progressed, suggestions emerged, and stories and memories surfaced.Following the construction stage, the clay surface becomes a highly textural canvas, and colour slips, underglazes, and oxides are applied freely in layers. Camouflaged under slips and glazes, it is not until they have been fired multiple times (sometimes with more applications in between) that the true character of each piece is revealed.
